THE ESSENE HERITAGE
or
The Teacher of the Scrolls and the Gospel Christ
Martin A. Larson
Philosophical Library / Frederick A. Praeger, 1957
Hardcover with dust jacket
A foundational mid‑century study linking the Essene community, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and early Christian doctrine. Larson—already known for The Essene‑Christian Faith and Religion of the Occident—argues that Essene teachings formed the intellectual and spiritual substrate of the Gospel tradition. This volume predates the major Allegro publications and captures the early scholarly excitement surrounding the Scrolls.
The work includes Larson’s analysis of Essene theology, communal practice, and textual parallels between Qumran manuscripts and New Testament passages. For collectors of Scrolls scholarship, comparative religion, or mid‑century theological studies, this is a key early interpretive text.
