The Teddy Bears by Adah Louise Sutton, illustrated by A. J. Schaefer, is an early twentieth-century children’s book published by The Saalfield Publishing Co. of Akron, Ohio in 1907. This early Saalfield edition retains its charming pictorial boards and color frontispiece, preserving the visual appeal that made illustrated teddy-bear books especially popular during the first decades of the twentieth century.
The book itself presents particularly well, with bright illustrated paper-covered boards and a clean, tightly bound interior. Of additional interest, this copy retains its original illustrated dust jacket, now protected in a removable Brodart cover. The jacket is incomplete, but surviving jackets on children’s books of this period are noteworthy and add important context to the original presentation of the volume.
Very Good book in a Poor but surviving original dust jacket. The pictorial paper-covered boards remain bright, clean, and attractive, with light wear along the edges and corners. Binding is tight and secure. Interior pages are remarkably clean and unmarked, with light age toning. The color frontispiece is present and remains bright.
The original dust jacket is substantially incomplete, with the spine portion missing and approximately 1 inch of both front and rear panels also lost adjacent to the spine. Remaining jacket portions show creasing and edge wear but retain good color and legibility. The jacket is now protected in a removable Brodart cover. Please review photographs carefully for the extent of the jacket loss.
