Quarter leather bindings, with marble-edged text blocks, giltletteringand decoration on spines, 5 raised bands on spines. Marble end papers. Tables of Contents. Each book measures about 5 ½” x 8 ½.”


Bookplate of William H. Bartlett, whose commodity trading firm, Bartlett, Frazier & Co., Chicago, IL, did well in grain. His bookplate depicts the grand fireplace of the chief residence, Casa Grande, at his ranch on that property, Vermejo Park, in New Mexico. That house was built after Bartlettpurchased205,000 acresofMaxwellLand Grant property, in 1902, including Vermejo Park. His librarypurportedly contained10,000 volumes, which were bought andperhaps boundby his architect (and Frank Lloyd Wright\'s mentor) Joseph Silsbee.Ted Turner bought the property in 1996, and it is currently part of the Ted Turner Reserves, which are luxury eco-lodges and conservation areas.


Books are from the mid-1800s and as such, have somewearappropriate withage.Front andback endpapersand some text pageshave foxing spots from age. No creases or tears. Writing to top of title page ofA Historyof Servia.Previousowner bookplate affixedto the inside front cover of each volume.Boards have a bit of peeling/flaking to them from age but are tight to the spines.
