Painted in 1942, Shipping Out belongs to Benton\'s wartime work following the United States\' entry into World War II. A helmeted soldier carrying a rifle and heavy equipment turns toward the viewer while other servicemen move through the transport area behind him. Christie\'s records the work as oil on canvas and places it within Benton\'s wartime shift toward subjects concerning the everyday experiences of American military personnel.
