Set of Three Mid-Century Modern Brass & Clenched Hand Sconces with Murano-Style Glass Shades Rare set of three mid-century modern single-light wall sconces. Each fixture is designed around a sculpted, clenched black hand that holds a golden torch-style arm. Paired with elegant glass trumpet shades, this trio offers an exceptionally chic aesthetic perfect for a contemporary gallery wall, an entry hallway, or a sophisticated living space. The defining feature of each sconce is the beautifully cast, matte black hand extending from the wall plate, firmly gripping the brass torch stem.
This striking figural detail evokes the iconic mid-century surrealist designs of the mid-20th century. Each torch is crowned with a flared trumpet shaped glass shade. The shades feature an elegant white-and-clear speckled, textured finish reminiscent of art glass, beautifully accented with a polished gold-painted petal border along the gently scalloped rims. Measurements: each wall plate is 4" tall and 3" wide, the sconce is 5 1/2" tall without a glass shade, 10" tall with the glass shade, 3 1/2" extend from a wall ( including the glass shade).
Each sconce has a hanging bar on the backside of the wall plate. Very good vintage condition. The brass components of two sconces retain a bright, clean luster with only minimal surface wear. One sconce has some light deformation to the wall plate (see last picture for details) .
The sculpted black hands are structurally perfect with no chipping to the finish. All three art glass shades are intact, completely free of cracks, chips, or fractures along the rims with some wear to gilt.
I highly recommend having them inspected and rewired by a certified professional electrician to ensure they meet modern electrical safety standards before installation.
