ATTRACTIVE CLASSIC ANDREW JACKSON 2-CENT STAMP – APPARENTLY UNUSED!

A classic nineteenth-century United States postage stamp featuring an engraved portrait of President Andrew Jackson.

This example has a rich reddish-brown appearance, with detailed engraved lines and a well-defined central portrait.

The front shows no apparent cancellation, making it potentially interesting to collectors seeking an unused example of this historic series.

The reverse exhibits a broad area of discoloration and an irregular lighter central area. Original gum is not positively identified.

Both front and back photographs are provided for careful examination.

Historical Context:

Andrew Jackson and the Classic American Bank Note Era

The 2-cent Andrew Jackson stamp belongs to the celebrated Large Bank Note series, introduced in 1870.

These stamps were initially produced by the National Bank Note Company, followed by similar printings from the Continental Bank Note Company.

The portrait of Andrew Jackson, seventh President of the United States, was adapted from a sculpted likeness by Hiram Powers.

The engraved design represents an important era in American philately, when private bank-note engraving firms produced some of the country's most recognizable classic postage stamps.

Condition:

APPARENTLY UNUSED – NO ORIGINAL GUM CONFIRMED – SOLD AS-IS.

This example displays an attractive front appearance, with reasonably balanced margins, a detailed portrait, and no obvious postal cancellation.

However, buyers should note:

  • Original gum is not confirmed; the stamp appears to be without gum.

  • Extensive discoloration is visible on the reverse.

  • A lighter area in the central reverse may indicate previous mounting, surface disturbance, or another condition issue; its cause has not been established.

  • Small yellowish stains are visible near the bottom of the reverse.

  • Some perforations appear shortened, uneven, or worn.

  • Possible thinning, previous hinging, gum removal, regumming, repairs, and other alterations have not been independently ruled out.

This item is NOT offered as Mint Never Hinged (MNH).

The presence of a grill has not been confirmed.

Please carefully inspect all photographs before purchasing.

Catalog & Identification Notice:

The stamp appears consistent with the 1870–1871 2-cent Andrew Jackson red-brown issue, potentially Scott #146.

Identification of this issue requires checking the printing characteristics, paper, possible grill, and the small secret mark used to differentiate certain National and Continental Bank Note printings.

The 1873 Continental Bank Note printing, Scott #157, remains a possible alternative.

All catalog attributions are best-effort identifications based on the available images and published references.

Catalog number, original gum status, absence of cancellation, and authenticity are not guaranteed. Buyer should verify.

No expert certificate is included.

Shipping & Handling:

Your collectible will be carefully packaged to help protect it during transit.

Tracking will be provided whenever available through the selected shipping service.

Combined shipping is available whenever possible. For multiple purchases, please wait for a combined invoice before paying.

Import duties, customs fees, VAT, and other destination-country charges are the buyer's responsibility.
