Untested Vintage Digitech PDS 1550 Distortion Pedal Made in USA:
$44.99

The DigiTech PDS 1550 Programmable Distortion is a unique, vintage dual-channel analog distortion pedal originally released in the late 1980s under both the DOD and DigiTech brand names. Known for its rugged \"built like a tank\" chassis, the dual-footswitch pedal houses two distinct, highly customizable gain circuits alongside an onboard analog delay sub-circuit.💡 Core Circuit ArchitectureThe pedal features two distinct sides that can be toggled via the secondary footswitch:
  • Channel A (The \"Chainsaw\" Side): This channel is a near-identical clone of the famous Boss HM-2 Swedish Chainsaw distortion stage. It features the same high-gain distortion setup and gyrator-based tone shaping, making it a hidden gem for vintage heavy metal tones. It also includes a unique mixable analog delay (utilizing an MN3007 BBD chip) that yields a short 10ms to 40ms slapback/double-tracking effect to thicken up the signal.
  • Channel B (The Overdrive Side): This side functions similarly to a heavily modified Ibanez Tube Screamer. It packs significantly more gain on tap than a standard TS pedal while retaining the ability to roll down into clean boost territory.
🎛️ \"Programmable\" Internal AdjustmentsWhile modern pedals use digital presets, the PDS 1550 achieves its \"programmable\" status via analog controls hidden underneath the bottom battery cover plate.
  • 7-Position DIP Switches: Internal switches allow users to reprogram the signal routing, toggle sub-circuits, change the voicing, and alter the delay parameters.
  • 3-Band Parametric EQ: Controlled via internal trim pots, this powerful EQ gives you a center frequency sweep from 100Hz to 3700Hz, a massive +/- 20 dB boost/cut, and an adjustable Q bandwidth (0.1 to 1.6 octaves), making it exceptional for sculpting a mid-scoop.
⚙️ Technical Specs & Quirks
  • Power Requirement: Operates on a standard 9V battery or an old-school DOD-style 3.5mm (1/8\") mini-jack 9V DC supply. Modern power supplies require a simple 3.5mm center-positive adapter tip to avoid damaging the unit.
  • Outputs: Features stereo outputs for complex signal routing and wide, expanded stereo soundscapes.
  • The Catch: Because the heavy parametric EQ settings are shared between both channels, finding a setting that sounds perfect on both Channel A and Channel B simultaneously can be tricky, often leading guitarists to favor one channel over the other for a specific live performance setting.
This unit is untested. It is missing the battery cover for the 9v battery. It has some aesthetic wear; see photos.
