This rare vintage 1960s studio art belt buckle was handcrafted by renowned New Orleans artist and metal artisan Henry Alvin (H. Alvin) Sharpe (1910–1982). Creator of the iconic original Mardi Gras doubloon in 1960, Sharpe was a celebrated figure of the Southern Arts & Crafts movement, known for his bespoke fine silver metalwork and hand-enameled pieces.
The piece is crafted from solid .999 pure fine silver and features a center champlevé style enamel medallion depicting a vivid coastal blue crab set against a rich cobalt background. The heavy silver plaque displays hand-hewn, artisanal edges and natural surface texture characteristic of Sharpe's HAS Studio work. Hallmarked on the lower front face with Sharpe's signature HAS studio mark alongside pure silver fineness stamps.
