Exceptional vintage Alfred Shaheen Honolulu Hawaiian / Aloha shirt, dating to approximately the late 1950s–early 1960s, with the desirable crown/crest Alfred Shaheen label.
Features the elaborate pictorial design commonly referred to as the “Luau” print, depicting hula dancers, musicians, tropical fruit, palms, flowers and island scenes in rich red, orange, gold and cream tones.
The hand-printed design incorporates metallic bronze-tone pigment outlining and accents. The metallic pigment has naturally oxidized with age, so it is no longer bright or sparkly, but retains a distinctly different character and subtle sheen from the surrounding printed colors.
Wonderful original details include Asian coin-style metal buttons, loop/camp collar with original collar button, pattern-matched chest pocket, and the original printed selvage identifying the fabric as copyright Alfred Shaheen Ltd. and hand printed in Honolulu, Hawaii.
