The product is a very rare vintage Jan Allen Great Dane sculpture, a 1st edition original statue made of resin. The sculpture is themed around animals, specifically a dog, and was produced in Europe during the 1980s using bronze casting technique. This very rare piece is signed by Jan Allen and is absolutely gorgeous and very like-like. Most likely one of a kind. I believe he is either chalk ware or plaster.
Jan Allan was the name used by Elisabeth Anne Philbrick Hall (1917-2009), on all her sculptures designed for Contemporary Arts (CA), founded in 1939 and closed in 1947. She was known as one of the finest American animal sculptors. These busts were often commissioned as prizes for prestigious dog shows or were private commissions which immortalized animals and pets in sculpture for their owners.
The bust measures approximately 6” tall, 6” long and 3” wide.
