This is a classic American dress watch from Elgin\'s De Luxe line, made around the late 1940s. The square 10K rose gold-filled case is by Keystone J. Boss, and the caseback is stamped \"Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co.\" The case has stepped Art Deco lines, hooded lugs and a tall domed crystal. At 22mm it wears like a proper vintage tank.
Dial & hands: The original salmon/copper dial has Roman numerals at XII, III and IX, open square markers, and a stepped Art Deco sub-seconds register at 6. It\'s signed \"Elgin De Luxe.\" All the hands are blued steel, which looks great against the warm dial. The dial has even spotting and age toning throughout, with a slightly darker area below the center. It hasn\'t been refinished.
Movement: Elgin grade 558, 17 jewels, manual wind, signed \"Elgin 558 U-S-A,\" serial E107772. The watch runs, but would benefit from a service.
Case condition: There\'s normal wear for its age: light scratches, wear on the case edges and lug tips, and a few small marks. The caseback is clearly stamped \"10K Gold Filled.\" There\'s some verdigris on the inner case ring (see photos). The crystal shows edge wear.
Strap: It comes on a non-original brown leather strap with a gold-tone buckle. There\'s some loose stitching at the lug ends.
