Rare Early 1960s Anglo Fashions New York Wool Jacket with Champagne Fox Fur Portrait Collar — ILGWU Union Made
An exceptionally well-preserved vintage Anglo Fashions New York jacket, dating to approximately the late 1950s / early 1960s, most likely circa 1959–1963.
This beautiful American-made jacket features a sophisticated cropped, softly structured silhouette and an extraordinarily luxurious oversized genuine fox fur portrait collar.
The original ILGWU AFL-CIO union label remains attached. The style of this early blue union label provides important evidence for dating the garment to the early 1960s period. Cornell University's ILGWU archive documents the introduction and subsequent changes of these labels during this era. (ILGWU)
COLOR
A particularly unusual and sophisticated deep aubergine brown — a rich dark brown with subtle plum, chocolate and muted violet undertones.
Depending on lighting, the fabric may appear more chocolate-brown or more plum/aubergine.
The fur provides a beautiful contrast in a soft champagne-blonde / pale beige tone.
DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
Classic early-1960s cropped box-jacket silhouette with subtle shaping through the body.
The jacket features an impressive oversized genuine fox fur portrait collar, three large sculptural swirl-design buttons, long tailored sleeves and two small front flap pockets.
The understated architecture of the jacket allows the dramatic fur collar to become the focal point of the design.
The interior is fully lined in a coordinating deep burgundy/plum lining.
Original Anglo Fashions – New York label and original ILGWU AFL-CIO union label remain present.
FUR
Genuine fox fur.
The exceptionally generous collar is constructed from luxurious long-haired fox with beautiful natural depth and movement.
The fur is remarkably well preserved, retaining its long glossy guard hairs and dense, plush underfur.
The color is a sophisticated pale champagne-blonde/beige that contrasts beautifully with the dark aubergine-brown body of the jacket.
CONDITION
Exceptional vintage condition / remarkably preserved.
This jacket has survived in extraordinary condition considering its approximately 60+ year age.
The outer fabric presents beautifully, the lining is exceptionally clean, and the original decorative buttons remain present.
Most importantly, the vintage fox collar is in outstanding preserved condition, remaining full, dense and luxurious, with excellent long guard hairs and a rich undercoat.
No significant flaws are apparent from the provided photographs.
As with all genuine vintage garments, please review photographs and measurements carefully as they form part of the description.
