A fantastic and unusually large vintage Hellerware Spinning Salad Service, featuring an approximately 18-inch wooden salad bowl, elevated tripod stand, rotating serving mechanism, and two coordinating approximately 16-inch wooden salad servers.
What makes this piece especially interesting is that this Hellerware design can be documented in an original 1972–1973 retail catalog. The period catalog advertised an “18" Spinning Salad Service” and described the bowl as rotating on a ball-bearing tripod and being accompanied by 16-inch spoon and fork servers—dimensions and features that correspond closely with this set.
The catalog originally offered the complete service for $41.98 in the early 1970s.
The underside of this bowl retains its original HELLERWARE – Made in Taiwan, Republic of China maker's mark.
With its warm wood finish, oversized sculptural bowl, slender tapered tripod legs and clever rotating design, this is a wonderful example of 1970s Mid-Century Modern entertaining ware. Unlike a conventional tabletop salad bowl, the approximately 31-inch-tall floor-standing design creates a dramatic serving piece that could be positioned beside a dining table or buffet.Constructed from joined hardwood segments with a rich walnut-tone finish characteristic of Hellerware's period wooden serving pieces. Period Hellerware advertising described its salad ware as “walnut finished.”
The original long wooden salad servers can be hung from the hook located on the side of the stand when not in use.
Included: 18" wooden salad bowl, rotating tripod stand and two approximately 16" wooden salad servers.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with expected signs of age and previous use, including surface scratches, finish wear and small marks. Please examine all photographs closely for condition. The set presents beautifully and retains the warm character expected of an original vintage wooden serving piece.
A particularly striking Hellerware piece with documented presence in retail catalogs of the early 1970s.
