1971 Whitman “Finger Ding\" paper dolls (#1993-69 / 1993:69) is a softcover paper-doll book published by Western Publishing Company (Whitman, Racine, Wisconsin) as an authorized edition licensed from Remco Industries, Inc. (© 1971 Remco). It adapts Remco’s earlier Finger Ding finger-puppet dolls into “walk-along” paper versions that fit on your fingers.
- Three main dolls with distinctive hair and swimwear/base outfits: **Sally Ice Skater** (blue spiral hair), **Betty Ballerina** (orange/red curly hair), and **Millie Mod** (blonde spiral ponytail). They have fold-around stands/loops designed so fingers can go through slits to make the dolls “walk.”- Multiple outfits with tabs (color-coded to match each doll), including skating, ballet, casual/mod, raincoat, striped, quilted, and other fashions.- Press-out scenic panels (cafe/restaurant scene, ballet stage with “Betty Ballerina” sign, winter skating pond with snowman, trees, etc.) that fold and stand up to decorate a room.- Instructions for assembly and play.
It has the typical colorful, graphic 1970s children’s illustration style and the Whitman/Remco markings (including “Authorized Edition,” “A Whitman Book,” and “Produced in U.S.A.”). The physical Remco Finger Ding puppets (Betty Ballerina, Millie Mod, Sally Skater, and others) were popular around 1969–1971; this book is the paper-doll companion.
