Before Atari brought Pong into living rooms, there was the Magnavox Odyssey. Released in 1972 and based on Ralph Baer’s “Brown Box” design, it was the first home video game console. This is where the story of playing video games on your television begins.
The Odyssey was unlike anything that followed. Its simple on-screen shapes became games through colorful overlays placed on the TV, plug-in game cards, and physical pieces such as cards and poker chips. Playing it was an event: open the box, choose a game, set up the television, and gather everyone around. Today, the Odyssey belongs in any serious collection of video game history.
Now look at this example. The chips are still in their original shrink wrap. The cards retain their original rubber bands. The console, accessories, paperwork, molded packing, and box present beautifully. Taken together, everything about it suggests it may never have been used, although I cannot verify its history. Study the photos: this is the exact Odyssey you will receive.
I want to be clear about two flaws. The removable plastic hanger on the back of the switchbox has its hook portion broken off. The battery holder is cracked, as shown in the close-up photos. These two things are easily remedied if you want. I have not tested the console, so its operating condition is unknown and it is sold as is.

With the nature of these old games they will almost always have some little issue...buttons don\'t press perfect, screens faded, small scuffs or wear from play.... battery covers don\'t stay on perfect.
