Up for sale/sale is a highly sought-after, original vintage 1980s Don Post Studios latex mask of the classic "Sinistre" / "Sinestre" (frequently associated with the Phantom of the Opera style design).
This is a phenomenal survivor piece for vintage monster kid collectors, made even rarer because it still retains its original paper factory instruction sheet/backing tag pinned underneath! Due to transitional factory printing runs common at Don Post during this era, the generic instruction tag bears a 1979 Paramount Pictures copyright mentioning Star Trek characters (Mr. Spock, Vulcan, Klingon)—a fascinating piece of company production history.
CONDITION DETAILS (Please Read Closely Before offerding):
This mask is being sold strictly as a HISTORICAL DISPLAY / COLLECTOR'S ITEM. It is over 40 years old, has fragile properties, and cannot be worn.
It was stored with the neck latex tucked around the head form, as can be seen in the pictures. Thus the neck portion is "tucked" under the form.
- Latex State: The latex has fully calcified, hardened, and lost its elasticity. It is currently rigid and brittle.
- Damage & Cracking: There is an extensive network of "alligator-skin" micro-cracking across the facial features, concentrated around the nose bridge and the eye orbits. There are noticeable splits, tearing, and structural warping around the jawline and along the back/bottom neck flaps.
- Hair & Paint: The factory hair, eyebrows, and painted detailing (including the decayed teeth and mouth lesion) remain securely attached, vibrant, and structurally sound.
- Internal Support: The mask currently houses an internal Styrofoam insert block (mannequin head). The Styrofoam head has damage (a portion removed) in the back portion. I assume this was for display purposes. For shipping purposes, this will be packed with absolute care to ensure no compression or bending occurs.
Dimensions: Approximately 11.5" H x 9" W.
Please review all close-up photographs to examine the exact cracking patterns and split areas. Sold completely AS-IS. This is an incredible candidate for a professional archival foam-fill display restoration project.
SHIPPING & HANDLING:
Will ship heavily padded in an oversized box to ensure no shifting or crushing occurs during transit. Ships from a smoke-free home.
I cannot combine shipping on this item.
