A documented 2004 studio pottery vase by award-winning Taiwanese ceramic artist Cho Ming-Shun (卓銘順), titled “Lily Vase (Rattan Handle).” This sculptural vessel combines high-fired Miaoli clay, a richly textured glaze, a hand-worked relief panel, and a natural rattan carrying handle.Cho Ming-Shun was born in Yingge—Taiwan’s historic center of ceramic production—and trained in ceramics at the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, now the National Taiwan University of Arts. His work has been selected for important Taiwanese and international exhibitions, and he has received recognition through the Taiwan Ceramics Gold Award and Taiwan Craft Design Competition. The Yingge Ceramics Museum continues to identify him as a working Taiwanese ceramic artist, including his participation in its international artist residency program.Created in 2004, this piece was oxidation-fired at 1230°C. The tall cylindrical form has a warm, earthy surface enlivened by small raised markings and a contrasting reddish-brown relief panel suggestive of a stylized lily. The rattan handle softens the strong architectural form and creates a thoughtful dialogue between fired earth and natural fiber—materials closely connected with Taiwanese craft traditions.The artist’s name, 卓銘順, is incised by hand into the unglazed clay base, providing an important direct signature.
