Vintage ABU Ambassadeur 2500C – Early March 1976 Swedish Production
Early-production ABU Ambassadeur 2500C, made in Sweden, with foot/production number 760300, dating this example to March 1976.
This is an especially desirable early 2500C configuration featuring the small/short twin-knob handle associated with early-production examples. The 760300 production number and early twin-handle configuration make this an interesting reel for the vintage ABU collector as well as someone looking for a classic Swedish Ambassadeur to fish.
The reel has been function tested and is working well. A video is included with the listing demonstrating operation.
Testing performed:
* Handle/retrieve operates smoothly with no binding or grinding noted
* Free-spool/casting button releases the spool properly
* Reel re-engages properly when the handle is turned
* Level-wind mechanism travels smoothly from side to side and reverses properly
* Drag adjustment operates properly from light to firm tension
* Numbered adjustment control operates and changes resistance
* Spool feels secure with no noticeable excessive play
This reel has clearly been fished and enjoyed rather than spending its entire life on a shelf, and it shows honest cosmetic evidence of that history. There are scattered small dings, scratches, finish wear and other normal signs of previous use. The black handle knobs also show age/use wear.
The metal handle arm appears to have a very slight bend near one end, as shown in the photos. This did not affect operation during testing, and I have intentionally left the reel as found rather than attempting to straighten or disassemble a vintage collectible.
Please examine the photos and video closely, as they are an important part of the condition description. This is not a pristine collector-grade example, but it is an attractive, early-production 2500C with plenty of character and apparently quite a few fishing stories already behind it.
Existing fishing line is included as found. Its age and condition are unknown, so replacement is recommended before fishing.
The reel has not been internally disassembled or serviced by me.
