Fascinating vintage African hand-carved wooden power figure, displaying characteristics associated with traditional Songye Nkishi figures from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa.
This impressive sculpture stands approximately 18 inches tall and features an expressive carved face, large rounded head, prominent curved horn-like projection, elongated neck, and rounded abdomen with both hands positioned along the sides.
The lower portion is decorated with what appears to be animal hide, hair, natural fibers, cord, and small attached bundles.

HISTORY & POSSIBLE ORIGIN
This piece came from a collection of African artwork reportedly acquired during travels throughout Africa in the mid-1980s.
The sculpture bears similarities to traditional Songye Nkishi power figures associated with the Congo region. Such figures historically incorporated horns, bundles, and other materials of spiritual significance.
The exact country of origin, tribal attribution, age, and ceremonial use of this particular piece have not been independently authenticated.
CONDITION
Vintage pre-owned condition with substantial surface wear, wood cracking, weathering, and areas of deterioration, particularly around the back of the head. The lower hide and fiber attachments show age and wear.
The horn-like projection appears separately attached, with dark material surrounding its base. Its exact material has not been determined.
