Fine vintage Chinese carved bamboo songbird cage measuring approximately 17.5" high X 9.5" diameter.
This unusually decorative example features numerous hand-carved applied ornaments including floral, fruit, bird and butterfly motifs, porcelain feeding/water vessels, carved bamboo perch, removable fitted base and an elaborate metal bird/phoenix-form hanging hook.
The removable base is particularly distinctive. The underside is densely incised with a repeating geometric pattern and has prominent Chinese characters at the center.
The cage appears remarkably intact for it's age. I found no obvious repairs, broken bars or missing structural components. It retains an attractive warm aged bamboo patina. Porcelain accessories and decorative carvings remain in place.Exact age and maker are unknown. Based on form, materials and constructions, it appears to be from an early-to-mid century Chinese decorative songbird cage. Sold as a decorative collectible rather than for modern bird use.
