Offered here is a striking vintage Chinese Chinoiserie porcelain figural bowl modeled as a seated monkey raising a large lotus-form bowl above its head.
The monkey wears an elaborate deep blue vest decorated with colorful hand-painted-style flowers and foliage, beautifully highlighted by gold gilt trim. Its body has a finely textured, fur-like surface, while the expressive white face features individually painted eyes and facial details.
The dramatic scalloped bowl above the monkey's head is designed in the form of a stylized lotus blossom, with a rich navy blue exterior, contrasting ivory petal decoration and a rosy pink interior. The combination of the floral costume, gilding and bold colors gives the piece wonderful Chinoiserie character.
