This distinctive vintage Chinese pillow box combines useful jewelry and keepsake storage with an unusual curved form, detailed dragon and phoenix decoration, ornate brass-tone hardware and an extensively illustrated Chinese paper interior. At approximately 11.5 inches long, it is a substantial decorative box with considerably more visual interest than a typical jewelry or trinket box.The rich red exterior features a dragon and phoenix across the curved top, additional floral and decorative motifs, and traditional geometric borders. An ornate circular brass-tone latch secures the front, while decorative metal handles accent both ends.Inside, the box is lined with printed Chinese paper featuring numerous characters, grids and illustrated figures. The extensive interior printing is one of the most interesting features of this particular example and continues across both the upper and lower sections.The box measures approximately 11.5 inches long x 4.25 inches wide x 4.5 inches high.
