A striking pair of vintage French cast stone (pierre reconstituée) cherub mascarons, sourced from southern France near the historic Pont du Gard region.
Molded with expressive features and open mouths styled after classic French fountain spouts and wall waterspouts, these sculptural pieces bring immediate architectural presence and Old World romance. Decades of natural garden exposure have created a lovely weathered patina, featuring warm ochre undertones reminiscent of Provençal limestone alongside genuine surface lichen and moss remnants.
Cast with embedded iron hanging wire loops in the recessed backs, they are ready for display either as outdoor garden salvage or hung indoors as sculptural accents on a gallery wall, flanking an entryway, or styled on open shelving.
Origin: Southern France (Gard / Provence region)
CONDITION
Good vintage architectural condition with expected wear from outdoor exposure. One cherub features an older chip to a side curl as shown in photos, consistent with salvaged garden stone and adding to its timeworn character. Natural weathering, mineral residue, and fine surface pitting throughout from age and casting process. Please review all photos for close-up details
