A devotional pendant medal of the Art Deco era, likely produced for the pilgrimage trade at Lourdes, France, circa 1930s-1950s. The front depicts the veiled Virgin Mary in profile, rendered in pale blue enamel against a cobalt guilloché enamel ground scattered with small applied gilt stars. The reverse shows a monochrome enamel scene of Bernadette kneeling before the apparition at the Grotto of Massabielle, the hallmark iconography of a Lourdes souvenir medal.
The circular plaque is set within a scalloped silver-colored frame bezel-set with sixteen round marcasite stones, with a further single marcasite accenting the hinged bail. The combination of guilloché enamel work, gilt star detailing, and marcasite framing is characteristic of French and European devotional jewelry of the period.
No hallmarks, maker\'s marks, or purity stamps are legible on the bail, jump ring, frame edge, or the plain reverse rim. The piece is offered as acid tested and verified silver.
See photos for measurements. An evocative piece of mid-20th-century French religious folk jewelry, suitable for a collector of devotional antiques, enamel work, or marcasite jewelry.
Condition Notes: Good vintage condition. Photos show the enamel front intact with no visible chips or losses; marcasite stones present and secure. Rear enamel loss noted, see photo. Surface shows light wear consistent with age. No hallmarks or stamps are legible anywhere on the piece.
Note: All silver is acid tested, so buy with confidence!
