A compact mid-century Scout hatchet with both of its major identifying markings still clearly readable: the boxed GENUINE PLUMB trademark on one side of the forged steel head, and the Boy Scouts of America emblem with the BE PREPARED motto on the other. Many surviving Scout hatchets have lost one or both markings to decades of sharpening and cleaning, which is what makes this example appealing to Plumb collectors, antique tool collectors, BSA memorabilia collectors and vintage camping collectors alike.
Condition is honest vintage used. The head carries original age-darkened patina, surface scratches and tool marks, light oxidation and discoloration, and evidence of historic sharpening. No aggressive modern polishing or refinishing is apparent, and the edge shows normal period wear rather than a fresh modern grind. The wooden handle has an attractive aged amber-brown finish with small marks, scratches and dents from handling, and a curved profile consistent with vintage Plumb Scout handles. The handle appears period to the piece and may be original, but because no factory handle label or readable Official Scout Axe marking survives, it is not represented as conclusively factory-original.
