VINTAGE HAMILTON CALIBER 688 – 17 JEWELS – 10K RGP – MANUAL WIND – FULLY SERVICED

Offered here is a handsome vintage Hamilton men’s mechanical wristwatch, believed to date from approximately the 1960s.

This watch has been personally refurbished and fully serviced by the seller. The mechanical movement was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, properly lubricated, reassembled and tested prior to sale.

It is currently winding, setting and running properly.

Inside is a genuine Hamilton Caliber 688, Swiss-made, 17-jewel manual-wind mechanical movement.

The movement is clearly marked:

Hamilton used the Swiss-made 17-jewel Cal. 688 in a number of its watches during the 1960s.

A close-up photograph of the actual movement is included so the buyer can see exactly what is inside this watch.

The inside of the original Hamilton caseback is clearly marked:

The bezel/case is therefore 10K rolled gold plate, with a stainless-steel back.

The watch also retains a Hamilton-signed crown.

The vintage silver/champagne dial has a fine radial texture with large applied gold-tone Arabic numerals and matching gold-tone hands.

A traditional subsidiary seconds register is positioned at 6 o’clock, giving the watch a classic mid-century dress-watch appearance.

The dial is signed HAMILTON beneath the Hamilton emblem and SWISS at 6 o’clock.

The dial is not represented as being restored. It shows genuine age, including spotting, discoloration/patina and deterioration around portions of several applied numerals and the outer dial. Please study the close-up photographs carefully.

I have intentionally photographed the watch closely so its vintage condition can be accurately evaluated by the buyer.

Measurements are approximate and were taken by the seller.

The 32 mm diameter is characteristic of men’s dress watches from this period and wears quite differently from a modern oversized watch.

This watch has been personally refurbished and fully mechanically serviced by the seller, rather than merely being offered as an untested or simply “running” vintage watch.

The movement was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, properly lubricated, reassembled and tested.

At the time of listing, the watch:

• Winds normally
• Sets normally
• Runs properly
• Has been recently serviced

As with any vintage mechanical watch, performance can vary according to position, state of wind, temperature and use. No modern quartz-level accuracy guarantee is implied.

This is an approximately 60-year-old vintage wristwatch and shows appropriate evidence of previous use.

The 10K rolled-gold-plate surfaces show scratches, marks and areas of age/wear. The stainless-steel caseback also has visible scratches and wear.

The dial has attractive vintage character but is not flawless. There is visible patina/spotting and deterioration around portions of the applied numerals. These areas are clearly shown in the photographs and have not been concealed.

The raised crystal shows normal signs of age/use and contributes substantially to the period appearance of the watch.

The watch is fitted with a complementary brown leather strap.

This is a vintage mechanical wristwatch and should be treated accordingly.

Although Hamilton watches of this era may originally have been marketed with water-resistant characteristics, no water resistance is represented or guaranteed today. Unless subsequently pressure tested, the buyer should assume the watch is not water resistant.
