Beautiful piece of primitive American folk art — a vintage wood-frame buck saw. Hand-painted mixed media on masonite with a charming winter farm scene. The scene depicts a snow-covered log cabin and barn nestled among bare winter trees, with a split-rail fence winding through the snow and a woodpile with an axe in the foreground, all under a soft blue and gold sunset sky. Signed but unable to make out the signature. Was a barn find in the Cumberland Plateau in Warren County, Tennessee
The saw itself is a genuine antique two-man crosscut buck saw frame with a working turnbuckle tensioner and the original toothed steel blade, repurposed as the canvas for this folk art piece. Measures 32\" at its widest point, tapering to 19\" at the top. Wood frame shows age-appropriate wear including a small separation at one of the frame joints (see photos) — missing one tooth on the saw blade.
Structurally sound and displays beautifully as-is.
