Unique vintage handcrafted clay figural wall mirror originally sold through Mindscape Gallery & Studio in Evanston, Illinois.
This unusual studio-art mirror features a sculptural hooded or whimsical figural character leaning over an oval mirror, with dimensional hands, stars, heart details and expressive hand-modeled features. The clay has a warm earthy finish with darker distressed/oxide accents that give the piece substantial texture and character.
The back retains its original Mindscape Gallery / Evanston, IL label, providing excellent provenance. There is also a small incised maker's mark/signature on the clay; however, the mark is difficult to read, so I am intentionally not attributing this piece to a specific artist.
The piece appears to be individually handmade rather than mass-produced and would work beautifully in a collection of American studio pottery, folk art, outsider-style art, vintage ceramic sculpture, Gothic décor, whimsical art or unusual mirrors.
