Large Vintage Handcrafted Hardwood Boomerang – Approx. 27” / 69 cm
This striking vintage hardwood boomerang comes from my father’s personal vintage collection. He acquired it during his travels on a US NavyMediterranean cruise that took him around Northwest Africa inthe early 60s, and it remained in his collection for many years. He was particularly proud of this piece, which is one of the reasons it has been preserved in our family collection.
The boomerang measures approximately 27 inches (69 cm) from end to end and has a substantial, gently curved asymmetrical form. One end features distinctive hand-applied dotted and linear decoration.
The surface shows considerable age-related character, including patina, scratches, marks, discoloration and other irregularities. It has not been cleaned, sanded, polished, refinished or restored, and I have intentionally left it in the condition in which it was preserved.
The exact maker, age and geographic origin are unknown. Although its form and decoration are suggestive of traditional ethnographic workmanship, I do not have documentation identifying its maker, culture or specific period, so buyers should make their own assessment from the detailed photographs.
Provenance: From my father’s longtime vintage collection; acquired during his Mediterranean/Northwest African travels and his US Navy Mediterranean cruise tour in the early 60sand retained by our family afterward.
