Vintage Holmes & Edwards Orient-Venice Silver-Plated Serving Spoon, 8 3/4” For Sale

A STUNNING piece of antique silver-plate, the Vintage Holmes & Edwards Orient-Venice Serving Spoon features a scalloped, a vermeil, gold-washed bowl and a heavily detailed Art-Nouveau handle, magnificent characteristics of high-end berry and casserole spoons from the past. Holmes & Edwards was highly regarded for its unique “sterling inlaid” reinforcement process of fusing solid blocks of silver to the wear points on the back of the bowl and on the handle before plating the piece. This process made the spoon incredibly strong.The vermeil in the bowl of the spoon was added to protect the silver-plate from the acids in certain foods.This piece is in excellent vintage condition with the vermeil intact and the decorative scroll work on the hand is razor-sharp and defined. There is absolutely no plate loss on the piece with only the faintest scuffs on the back of the bowl. If this spoon was ever used, it was very gently done!
