Sourced directly in North India in 2005, this choker-length devotional necklace presents graduated barrel-form red coral beads on traditional knotted red cotton cord, closed by a hand-cast gold-tone Surya clasp: the Hindu sun deity as radiating star with central raised boss, one of the oldest sacred forms in the Vedic tradition.
The beads are pressed/reconstituted coral — genuine coral material ground and formed — the standard construction for devotional Moonga malas worn for Vedic astrological purposes throughout India. Red coral (Moonga) represents Mars (Mangal) in Vedic astrology and is worn to strengthen energy, vitality, courage, and the removal of Mangal Dosha from a person\'s birth chart.
