An attractive and highly decorative Indian miniature-style painting depicting a richly dressed royal nobleman or courtly falconer holding a bird of prey, a subject closely associated with aristocratic life and royal hunting traditions in Indian and Mughal-inspired art.
The central figure is shown in profile with a carefully rendered black beard and moustache, wearing an elaborate golden headdress decorated with delicate floral motifs, pearl-like ornamentation and a dark tassel. His costume is further embellished with a long multicoloured beaded necklace, decorative borders and a jewelled arm ornament.
Particularly appealing is the falcon or hawk perched upon the figure\'s gloved hand. The bird has been individually outlined with fine feather detailing, giving the composition a distinctive falconry theme.
