Title: Stunning & Rare Vintage Mid-Century Modern Bitossi Ceramic Horse Sculpture by Aldo Londi – Rare Orange Glaze (c. 1960s)
Up for your consideration is a highly collectible, authentic Mid-Century Modern ceramic "Cavallo" (Trojan Horse) sculpture designed by the master ceramist Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche in Italy.
While this iconic Etruscan-inspired form is occasionally seen in the classic Rimini Blu glaze, this particular specimen features a much scarcer and highly sought-after vibrant persimmon orange/brick red glaze. The glossy glaze pools beautifully into the hand-impressed geometric bands, providing excellent contrast and highlighting the intricate sgraffito textile patterns on the saddle, mane, and face.
The horse features Bitossi’s signature coarse, granular clay body (incorporating grog/chamotte), giving it an exquisite, rustic, and substantial tactile presence. It makes an absolute statement piece for any high-end Mid-Century Modern, Italian art pottery, or Eames-era collection.
