Baigneuse (The Bather), marked Santini
his statue is a classic representation of La Baigneuse (The Bather), a famous Neoclassical marble sculpture originally created by the French artist Étienne-Maurice Falconet (1716–1791) in 1757
Italian sculptors and artisans in Tuscany, particularly around the town of Volterra, made figures like this from crushed stone and resin binder. They were produced during the mid to late 20th century to satisfy a steady demand for classical decorative art. The workshop combined natural mineral powder with a durable resin to cast classical figures efficiently while retaining the look of carved stone.
People displayed these sculptures in homes and offices to add a touch of classical elegance to their interior decor. They were typically placed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables in living rooms and studies. Over time, mass production methods evolved, and decorative casting techniques shifted toward newer synthetic materials.
