Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage Japanese side-handled teapot (Kyusu), masterfully hand-crafted in the historic potting city of Tokoname, Japan.
Shaped from traditional unglazed, iron-rich Shudei red mud clay.
The Body Calligraphy: hand -incised in a fluid running script across the curvature of the teapot body reading something like "Filled with Fragrance" (or "The elegant fragrance of tea fills the air")? I’m not 100% sure.
The lid features a deeply textured hand-carving of Plum Blossoms blooming alongside a classic, rugged gnarled tree trunk.
In traditional Japanese art, the plum blossom represents endurance, resilience, and the arrival of spring.
Under the handle there’s a crisp, square stamp.
I’m not sure who or which studio this is.
