This is a beautiful, highly textured vintage Mid-Century Modern era studio pottery cachepot / planter. Found at an estate sale alongside high-end mid-century European art pottery and furniture, this piece features an organic, slightly oval form wrapped in a striking, thick honey-amber/ochre crackle glaze. The gloss finish shows dramatic, deliberate crazing that exposes a rustic, dark high-iron stoneware body.True to traditional Asian provincial utility wares (Martaban style), the interior is sealed with a dark iron slip coating. Lacking a drainage hole, this functioned perfectly as a decorative cachepot to cleanly house a plant.Condition Details:
Excellent vintage condition with no structurally compromising cracks, chips, or repairs. The glazed surface shows beautiful age-appropriate patina and minor wear along the unglazed stoneware rim and base, adding to its organic, Wabi-Sabi character.
