Matching pair of vintage cast brass/bronze-tone trays featuring an unusual raised Orientalist-style scene of a reclining turbaned man beside a hookah/nargile.
The sculptural relief includes detailed clothing, figure and smoking-pipe imagery. Their shallow form makes them suitable as vintage smoking trays/ashtrays as well as decorative vide-poches, jewelry dishes, ring trays or desk accessories.
The pair has recently been hand polished with Brasso, revealing a considerably brighter warm golden finish while leaving some darker patina within the recessed details.
The exact copper-alloy composition has not been professionally tested, so they are being described as brass/bronze-tone rather than definitively identifying the alloy.
No maker’s marks or country-of-origin markings were found. They are therefore not attributed to Franz Bergmann, Vienna Bronze or another specific maker.
