Vintage Handmade Natural-Material Folk Art Basket – One-of-a-Kind
A wonderfully unusual handcrafted folk-art basket made from an assortment of natural materials and embellished with an abundance of rustic, dimensional details.
The basket has a handwoven twig/bark-style body with an organic, irregular construction that reflects its handmade character. The upper section is layered with fibrous natural material and secured with narrow natural-fiber bindings and a hand-braided cord.
The front is especially striking, featuring a flattened pine cone arranged in a flower-like rosette, surrounded by natural feathers and fur/hair-like fibers. Three-dimensional hanging ornaments are made from multiple wood and bead elements and finished with small feathers.
The decoration continues around the basket rather than being limited to the front, giving this piece the appearance of a three-dimensional folk-art assemblage rather than an ordinary functional basket.
The combination of twig, bark, natural fibers, feathers, fur-like material, wood, beads and pine cone creates a distinctly Southwestern-style rustic aesthetic that would make an unusual accent for a vintage, primitive, Western, Southwestern or eclectic interior.
