Original 1970s Kenner Spirograph TV Commercial — 16mm Film Reel
Before Spirograph became a childhood classic, it was an ingenious idea from British engineer Denys Fisher. Kenner introduced it to American children in 1966, turning simple plastic gears and a pen into designs that felt like magic. By the 1970s, television commercials were bringing that magic into living rooms across the country.
This is an actual 30-second Kenner Spirograph commercial on 16mm film—the physical reel a station could use to air the ad, not a later video copy. Its original box is marked “KENNER PRODUCTS / SPG 6 / SPIROGRAPH ‘KIDS’ / 30 SEC.” The photographed footage shows children drawing with Spirograph, close-ups of the designs, and the classic product display.
The reel was discovered by a local station employee. Station film was routinely discarded as equipment and advertising changed, which makes a surviving commercial like this a remarkable piece of toy and television history. The film was stored correctly and is not brittle.
