Here is a vintage Stratton \"Lipview\" mirror compact made in the 1960s in England. The ring on the reverse side is designed to clip onto a tube of lipstick, allowing the user to view the mirror automatically as the lipstick tube is opened. The intricate engine-turned leaf foliage engraving was highly popular for British vanity items during the mid-20th century.It is made of brass. The bright yellow exterior is a shimmering gold-tone gilt lacquer finish. This specialized clear lacquer was baked directly over the polished brass by the manufacturer. It acts as a protective shield, which is why vintage Stratton items resist tarnish and rarely need intensive polishing.
