Vintage Veedol Motor Oil advertising mechanical pencil made by Ritepoint for Masek Auto Supply, with locations printed on the barrel for Gering, Nebraska and Casper, Wyoming.
A fantastic piece of mid-century automotive advertising, this 6-inch mechanical pencil features the colorful period VEEDOL MOTOR OIL winged “V” logo prominently on the cream-colored barrel. The reverse is advertising MASEK AUTO SUPPLY – Gering, Nebr. – Casper, Wyo.
The gold-tone pocket clip is marked “Ritepoint,” a St. Louis manufacturer well known for producing advertising and promotional writing instruments during the mid-20th century. Ritepoint mechanical pencils were already being manufactured by the 1940s, making these surviving advertising examples an interesting crossover collectible for vintage pencil, automobilia, petroleum and regional advertising collectors.

CONDITION:
Original vintage condition with honest age and use wear. The cream barrel has areas of dark discoloration/staining, particularly near the upper portion. Gold-tone hardware shows finish wear and tarnish, and the Ritepoint clip shows considerable age-related wear. The Veedol logo and Masek Auto Supply advertising remain very legible and display nicely. Please examine all photographs closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
A particularly appealing piece of old service-station and automotive advertising with strong regional interest spanning both Nebraska and Wyoming. Unlike a generic promotional pencil, this example preserves the names of Veedol, the local auto-parts business that distributed it, and the two communities it served — a small surviving piece of mid-century American automotive history.
