The "Pendletones" (musical band) Uniform: In 1961 and 1962, a Southern California vocal group named themselves The Pendletones specifically after their favorite surf uniform—plaid Pendleton Board Shirts worn open over t-shirts and khakis. In late 1962, they changed their name to The Beach Boys.
