This striking bird measures approximately 15 inches and features a deep cobalt blue body and long tail with shimmering silver inclusions throughout. The sculpture has an elaborate hand-formed clear glass crest, clear applied wings and feathers, black glass beak and eyes, and a substantial clear glass sculptural branch/perch base.
The combination of cobalt glass, metallic silver inclusions, clear applied feathers, black facial details and clear plant-form base is strongly associated with Formia Vetri di Murano bird sculptures. Documented Formia examples use these same distinctive elements.
This piece does not retain a Formia label and I do not see a signature, so it is being described as attributed to Formia rather than definitively identified as a signed Formia piece.
The substantial size, brilliant cobalt color and shimmering silver detailing make this an impressive display piece for a Murano glass, Italian art glass, Mid-Century Modern or bird collection.
