A beautiful early 20th-century German mantel clock made by the Hamburg American Clock Company (H.A.C.), also known as the Hamburg-Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik (H.A.U.).

The clock dates to approximately 1910 and features a distinctive dark wooden case with an elegant curved form, decorative moulding, beaded trim and a stepped wooden base.

The movement is particularly interesting and is clearly marked with the characteristic Pfeilkreuz (crossed-arrows) trademark and stamped:

H.A.C. / H.A.U. was later incorporated into Junghans, which is why the two names are historically connected. This clock is correctly identified as an H.A.C. / H.A.U. clock, rather than being described as a later Junghans-made clock.

Brugmans & Co. was a historic Groningen retailer dealing in luxury goods, including clocks, crystal and porcelain. The surviving label gives this particular clock an interesting Dutch retail provenance.

The dark-stained wooden case has a distinctive early 20th-century architectural form with a sweeping curved profile, decorative carved details, beaded moulding around the front and a stepped base with small feet.

The combination of the German H.A.C. movement and the Brugmans & Co. Groningen retailer label makes this an interesting example of a German clock sold through a Dutch luxury-goods retailer.

Good antique condition with normal signs of age and use.

The wooden case has age-related scratches, rubbing, surface marks and areas of finish wear. The dial shows visible age and surface wear, and the metal components have natural age-related patina.
