⭐️CUSTOM⭐️ Cuddle Toys by Douglas Vesper Black Panther stuffed plush. Vintage collectible plush from the Douglas Threatened and Endangered Species line which was released in the late 1980s or 1990s, which has been customized. About 17” from nose to bum, around 26” including tail. Has been cleaned with unscented detergent, laundry sanitizer, and air dried to maintain softness of fur. It has been kept in a plastic bag to maintain cleanliness. Comes from a smoke free and low fragrance (no candles, air fresheners, perfumes, etc) home. Will be shipped in a plastic bag with bubble wrap inside a box for extra protection on their way home to you.
This is the only one of this plush that I have seen. It originally came filled with polyurethane foam bits, which made it hard and not cuddle-able by current standards. The nose and bottom of paws are a velvety type of material- it appears to have faded to more of a light gray, but may have been originally dark gray or even black. The fur is short and dense- unlike some contemporary plush where you can easily part the fur and see the fabric/mesh underneath, this fur doesn’t show the fabric. Because it’s a dense fur, the plush itself feels slightly more stiff- the plush pattern was made to not be floppy at all, but is much more so now that the foam has been replaced with polyfill. There were no weighted pellets included in the original design, and the belly was originally sewn shut with plastic line similar to fishing line.
The whiskers on one side of the face were glued in during factory installation, and a chunk of those whiskers were glued in a way that makes them short and look chopped off. See pics for details.
The plush is from my personal collection and so has been customized to be softer and floppy, but be aware that this is a vintage plush and will still feel stiffer than current plush.
Customization:
-replaced original polyurethane foam stuffing with high quality silky polyfill
- added a discreet zipper on the belly for easy access to the inside of the plush. This was added where the plush already was opened and sewn shut with plastic line. The zipper is soft and bends and doesn’t impact the cuddle-comfort of the plush. This makes it easy to add/remove stuffing or weight pellets, to add scent in whatever form you prefer, to wash more easily and guarantee that it dries completely so you can eliminate the chance of mold or musty smells, etc.
- added a handmade recycled fabric bag of poly pellets for extra weight. See bag of poly pellets in pic of open zipper
-added small bag of poly pellets to each foot, so that every foot has weight
-thread/needle sculpted the eyes back into position as they had come undone and were too wide apart
-thread/needle sculpted a few of the toes that had come undone
This is an extremely rare plush, but I am open to considering reasonable offers.
