VINTAGE JAPANESE TINPLATE SPACE TOY HORIKAWA ATTACKING MARTIAN Rare Gold Version · 1960s · Original Part Box Lid A striking Horikawa Attacking Martian in the scarce gold colour variation, accompanied by its surviving original illustrated box Lid. A classic Japanese space robot with opening chest doors, twin illuminated guns and unmistakable 1960s character. DETAILS
The gold version is regarded by specialist collectors as the hardest to find of the three principal colour variations of this early Attacking Martian. Its large metal head, perforated “fly-eye” panels, bright green chest inserts and contrasting red feet make it a particularly distinctive display piece.
Made in Japan by Horikawa / SH, with predominantly tinplate construction and colourful instrument-panel decoration inside the chest doors. The Attacking Martian\'s opening chest and illuminated gun sequence became an influential design, copied by later toy robots.
The rear battery-compartment door is present and marked MADE IN JAPAN.

Tested and partially working. The chest doors open and close, and the twin guns perform their firing action and light up. The legs move, but the robot does not walk correctly, rocking and shuffling rather than walking properly.

CONDITION
Well-played vintage condition, with surface scratches, scuffs, paint wear and chips, together with tarnishing and wear to the bright metal trim. Wear is particularly visible around the feet, body edges and raised details. Despite the play wear, the gold finish and colourful detailing give it strong display appeal.
The original illustrated box is in poor, fragile and incomplete condition, with heavy creasing, tears, split corners, missing sections of cardboard and old tape repairs. The surviving artwork remains an attractive accompaniment to the robot, but the box has substantial damage.
