Spalding was about as crazy as it got in the 80\'s and 90\'s, coming out with truly incredible tennis racket designs that broke the mold on what was possible in racket design.
The Premonition was almost certainly the brainchild of visionary engineer Rich Janes, who was responsible for many of the wilder designs at Spalding, as well as some of the crazier innovations at Prince.
I\'ve replaced the pallet on this Premonition with a modern Head TK82S, and finished it off with a high-quality, vintage leather grip. Now it feels remarkably solid in the hand, and it\'s hard to explain just how cool it feels to handle this guy on the court. There\'s just nothing like it.
Specs are perfectly modern and reasonable! As for whether the unusual hoop design, with the swollen corners and round upper hoop, actually benefits play, I couldn\'t say for sure. But the frame does play above its weight class, with excellent stability and forgiveness.
This example has some wear to the paint at the sides of the hoops, and little blemishes here and there, but that\'s because this frame rules and it\'s been played with. The cosmetic is dynamite, and in general it\'s just a real conversation-starter.
