The e9AI Collection is the artist\'s personal — and living — canon of a few hundred images selected from the hundreds of thousands of images he has generated over several years of working with artificial intelligence.
These aren\'t simply the images he considers the most successful. Together, they represent the culmination of everything he has learned about making and looking at art — along with the accumulated tastes, obsessions, accidents, influences, aesthetic sensibilities, and personal philosophies acquired over 65 years of being human.
AI supplied the machinery. The choosing, rejecting, recognizing, combining, refining, and deciding what was worth keeping remained human.
In that sense, the collection can be thought of as an artistic summa: not a record of everything he has made, but a distillation of the things that still held his attention after everything else had fallen away.
The collection is ongoing and evolving. There is no predetermined edition size for any image. Individual works may reappear over time, while titles, printing materials, printers, inks, papers, and other aspects of their presentation may also evolve.
Each card is printed, hand-cut, signed, and dated individually by the artist rather than produced as part of a numbered edition. The date records that particular physical incarnation of the work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
e9Art (aka eric) has been a typesetter, tire changer, the coffee dude, that pizza guy, a homeless couch-surfer, antiquarian bookseller, rabbit farmer, shoe smuggler, gag writer, children\'s picture-book author, award-winning and internationally published haiku poet, fine-art photographer, and, since 2016, a full-time self-taught artist.
eric didn\'t “discover” art until he was in his 50s — partly because he had assumed that being colorblind meant he couldn\'t be an artist, and partly because he grew up in an environment where art was considered a waste of time because “art doesn\'t put food on the table.”
Since his first art sale in 2014, he has been making up for lost time.
e9Art has created and sold more than 16,000 original works around the world — mostly ACEOs through — as well as hundreds of NFTs on platforms including OpenSea, Foundation, and Objkt.
