US-Canada M1917 light tank -or- FTS Command vehiclewith AMSCO tracks
The US entering WW1 did not have a tank mechanized force. In Europe, the US was furnished with the French FT-17 thus creating its first armored corps. The US proceeded and acquired a licensing agreement with Renault to produce the FT-17 domestically. Converting the French designs to accommodate US preferences, manufacturing capabilities, and \"improvements,\" resulted in the M1917 6-ton, 3-man light tank.
A cursory exterior look between the FT-17 and the M1917 reveal:
Muffler is relocated to the left of the vehicle
Budah engine
Front wheel is a flat steel
The idler tension adjustment is via 2 grooved flat plates
Relocation of tools on the hull
Addition of 2 angled plates and 2 drivers vision slots
Octagonal riveted turret to accommodate
a Marlin MG, or 37mm howitzer, or Browning MG
Track plates with \"AMSCO\" casting mark
