DESCRIPTION
Complete three volumes for the earlier monarch, and complete in two for the latter, with the last volume written by William Thomson, the works are an extensive and definitive history of these rulers.
Hugely significant to Spanish and European history, Philip II was notable for his marriage to Queen Mary I and for the Spanish Armada, whilst his son is known for his various failings as a statesman, was famously noted as a \"undistinguished and insignificant man\".

CONDITION
In half-calf binding with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally sound, there is some wear to the boards, joints, extremities and backstrip, with some minor loss of paper and leather to boards and backstrips respectively, as well as sunning to backstrips. Internally, the pages are generally firmly bound, with some strain, and there are instances of spotting throughout, although the text is unaffected.
